The beginning of the Dream

Very often, people ask me how it all began: how did I decide to launch Aoshi Studio. Generally I tell them that it was a long time childhood dream and that I had worked hard, and still am, to make it happen.

Well it’s true. But it’s not the whole story.

In fact it’s even simpler. As in a lot of case it’s all about a boy meets girl story. This boy has always been a dreamer: simple dreams but also big dreams he was too afraid to acknowledge. He was just content with the simple dream. Unfortunately there was no happy ending, no everlasting curtain call for this story, but nothing sad also: the simple dream just wasn’t meant to be.

So instead, the boy decided to aim for bigger things. He was not afraid anymore and he embraced his wildest dreams.

He used to think and believe that “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, and in retrospective he now thinks it’s a bit pessimistic because it keeps you in the past. He is now thinking that there is just no limit to his dreams.

I am still this boy, and I now only see an open road in front of me, no shortcuts, just possibilities.

Elizabeth – Your Place, Your Time

Elizabeth is the kind of person I really like, she has a great character and she also is strong willed, gorgeous, very sympathetic and most of all she is not afraid to aim for the top when she wants something. She is a dancer and since she was young she has always been into arts, as her parents also were performers. She left her hometown in the UK to come to France to expand her horizon and live her dreams. I really admire this kind of behavior and I am sure big things await her.

Shooting with her in the constraints of a studio space was very interesting. To tell you the truth, I am not a big fan of white backgrounds, so my objective was to play as much as I could with attitude and movement. It was a perfect opportunity to also test a few things. It was the first run for the lensbaby lens I just bought and I have to say that I really like what I can produce with it. It is definitely interesting and it opens new possibilities.

2011: a look in the mirror and new horizons.

Well it’s that time of the year again where I reflect on what I managed to achieve  and what I failed to do. It’s usually a good thing as it helps me set my goals for the year to come.

And this year is no different. So far things have been pretty good for me. I have worked on so many interesting projects, and met so many great people along the way. It made my day! … sorry year!

But I also realized that this year I was really close to a burnout at the end of the season. It made me realized that I needed to change a few things in how I worked. And even though I still have more than enough room to grow as a photographer, this is probably the first year where I felt comfortable in what I was doing. And you know what? Feeling this way made me very uncomfortable! I never want to feel too content with what I do because I always want to move forward.

So I decided to aim for bigger things. I am settings things in motion for 2012 and I will see if I can make it work. 2012 will be the year to dream big and act big.
