Why am I doing what I do?

Recently a charming one asked me how I came to shoot weddings and what I liked about it. I froze a bit at this moment. Not because I didn’t know what to tell her but because shooting wedding felt so natural to me I never really asked myself this question in these terms.

It’s true that for a lot of photographers shooting weddings is seen as a painful but lucrative process on top of their “real” projects. I don’t see it that way. When I decided to go pro, I knew I wanted to shoot weddings, not because I could earn money doing it but because I liked doing it and this is what I wanted. I have always led my life with the will to do what I liked. It is in my nature, I know that I can procrastinate very easily (read: be lazy) when I don’t feel involved in what I do and I need to have fun to always be on top of my game. This is how I stay motivated in what I do.

And I really love shooting weddings, I love this special interaction I have with the couples, the family and their loved ones. Basically I think I am lucky to be able to document the most beautiful day of their life. I am capturing moments of happiness and I am involved in this very special day. Personally I think this is the most enjoyable job in the world (except maybe Santa job but I am open to discussion… and I am not talking about Walmart Santa , ok?). Obviously there is a lot of pressure involved with the job but in the end a lot of personal satisfaction. I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

This path I chose may indeed be difficult but I am happy to follow it. Cynical persons might think that this is a way for me to find happiness through others but I believe it is very important to have a job you love and I definitely am.

Aoshi Studio did Thailand

I needed these vacations. The year up to now has been a giant roller-coaster to me, and even though I am more than happy with how things are going right now, I just needed a break. I just needed to go away to re-ener-source-rize myself (and as you can see I didn’t lose my touch to create new words). So I went to Thailand to chase the sun, the good food (you know how important this is) and just to change a scenery and it was great.

I come back full of energy, ready for the upcoming challenges.
